Throw Your Net Out One More Time!

ONE MORE TIME.

Success is sweet and everyone wants to associate with it. It is a great feeling when we attain success in our chosen endeavor. When we have worked so hard,  and  see the results of our hard work, it is exciting and of course a rewarding feeling. When we are favored by God in any little way, we testify and thank God immensely. On the other hand, what is our reaction and how do we respond when all our hard work and efforts does not equate to the success it produces? How do we respond when we have toiled all night and have nothing to show for it? What do you do when you have done your best and the outcome does not come close to what your anticipated goal is? In life, we all go through these experiences. We exercise our faith to move a mountain. We work hard at it and the mountain budges not!  In life we record successes sometimes and at other times, we experience defeat.

The story of Peter is an interesting one with lots of lessons to draw from. Peter was a professional fisherman with several years of experience under his belt. He knew how to fish and had mastered the art  but this particular day he went fishing as usual, toiled all night with his friends but caught nothing. Peter was disappointed. The scripture records in John 21: 3, "Simon Peter told them, and they said, "we'll go with you." So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing." In the following verses Jesus asked them, "Friends, haven't you any fish? "No they answered".

Peter had left his boat, was washing his net and had given up. I believe Peter felt exhausted, defeated and probably angry after toiling all night and caught nothing but Jesus instructed him to throw his net on the right side again. Luke 5 : 4 -7 records, He said to Simon, “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch. But Simon answered and said to Him, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net."And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking. So they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink".

Peter did something very important, He obeyed the voice of the all sovereign God. He never allowed his past circumstance of failure deter him from the instruction nor define his future. He knew Jesus controlled the fish and at His command, everything falls in place. He also knew it was the same sea he had toiled all night but at the command of Jesus, he trusted, had faith and throw his net one more time which resulted in a net breaking miracle of fish! They had to drag the net to shore with the help of other fisherman because the catch was much!

I understand that as people for God sometimes we can get discouraged. I understand that we may also get confused and even scared. I understand that sometimes we feel as if we have fished all night just to come up with empty nets. I believe that during these times, if we will listen closely, that we will hear God whisper to us, Cast your net on the other side. Throw your net one more time. Galatians 6:9 also reminds us, “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”

Have you toiled all night, days, months and even years and been disappointed with little or no results and even see failure in your endeavors, please NEVER GIVE UP! As Jesus said to Peter, obey his next instruction, trust God again and throw your net in one more time. Quitters never win and winners never quit.

Your time of rejoicing is here; Throw Out Your Net in One More Time!
